| | | Description: | | Nicely detailed 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor, a fifth-generation fighter aircraft (sometimes referred to as generation-five or "gen 5" fighter) currently in squadron service with the United States Air Force. As of 2009, the Raptor is the only known fifth-generation fighter deployed for active service by any nation in the world. The Raptor is a highly advanced air-superiority fighter aircraft that encapsulates the latest in aircraft design technologies that include stealth, supercruise, thrust-vectoring, and the highly advanced AESA radar system, just to name a few. As a fighter aircraft, the Raptor is capable of out maneuvering any generation-four fighter aircrafts in service today and thus seizing complete control of enemy air space. In addition, the Raptor is also a versatile platform that can perform a variety of ground attack and electronic warfare missions. The Raptor is considered by many the single greatest fighter aircraft ever produced to date, and until the Raptor encounters another gen-5 fighter sometimes in the future, it will remained a dominant force in the skies over present and future combat theaters for the U.S. Air Force. This Italeri 1/48 scale assembly kit features fine exterior details and parts to construct armaments carried by the F-22. Decals for 2 aircrafts included ("AF91 001; Spirit of America" and "AF91 002", Edwards AFB). | | | Features: | |

Overall great with a few fitment problemsJan 30, 2010
By S. Quinn I bought this model to put on my desk at work, and the model is great overall. It really captures the sleek looks the F-22 has. It does it so well that my coworkers won't leave the stupid model alone! Adding to that, 1/48th scale is pretty substantial without being too big. I did have some problems building it though (both kits I ordered).
My main gripe with this kit is that all the doors and hatches fit rather poorly. It's not an issue if you plan to build it with the gear down and the weapon bays open. However, if you want to build it with everything closed so you can put it on a stand or hang it from the ceiling, you'll need some filler puddy for the nose gear door and you might as well make your own weapon bay doors from sheet styrene. Test fit everything and don't trust the numbers in the directions. They don't always correspond to the right pieces for the side you're working on. There's also an issue with the top of the plane. The top surface is actually two pieces, one forward and one aft. The seam doesn't mesh very well so you may have to do some blending (I used a very thin layer of filler and then carved the detail lines back in with an xacto knife).
So do I recommend it? Not really, no. The kit looks great when it's done, but it's a real pain to build because of all the poorly fitting parts. And most of us buy model kits for the fun in building them. If you're not afraid of fixing these problems then go for it. But, if you can find another 1/48th scale kit, I'd recommend you try that one first.
Quick tip: If you plan to put it on a stand, I'd recommend getting some neodymium magnets and fixing a couple inside the plane before you put it together. Then put some more magnets on the base and you've got a pretty strong bond without marking up you brand new model

Unfortunately the only 1/48 available...Jan 04, 2008
By Plague11 It's unfortunate that this is the only 1/48 Raptor out there (the Revell one seems to use the same mould) because it is pretty sub-par in today's market. Detail is very sparse, the fit is pretty lousy, and the painting guide is just terrible. It's nice to have a Raptor in this scale, but as for the kit itself, I hope we see a better one soon.
