Academy 1/72 US 2 1/2 Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck
|CHOKING HAZARD -- Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.|
Highly detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the World War II U.S. Army CCKW 2.5 ton 6x6 cargo truck, commonly known as "Duce and a Half". The GMC CCKW cargo trucks were most famous for their contribution in the famed World War II "Red Ball Express", in which massive amount of men, equipment, and supplies were transported from the beaches of Normandy across France, Belgium, Holland and Germany as the Allies advanced towards final victory in Europe. Following the Second World War, the CCKW trucks were replaced by the M135 and later the M-35 family of trucks, but the legend of the CCKW lives on, as new generation of 2.5 ton trucks continues to be referred to as "Duce and a Half". This Academy 1/72 scale assembly depicts the closed cab version CCKW. Model kit features: Highly detailed chassis. Realistically detailed cargo bed. Separate cargo load of fuel drums, ammo boxes, and jerry cans. Nicely detailed .30 and .50 caliber machine guns. Detailed engine and cab interior.

excellent 1/72 scale modelAug 30, 2010

All parts fit well together. Lots of extras with the drums, tools and weapons. Good detail. and just a joy to build. Gret price too.
Academy: Complicated, but worth itDec 26, 2012
First things first: This is a great model. It looks great assembled, takes paint well, and has an amazing level of detail. The inclusion of extra boxes, barrels and in particular the machine guns, takes it into 5 star territory.
Now, the down side. Academy models are VERY complicated, with a lot of fiddly small parts that have very precise locations. It doesn't help that the plastic is a bit on the fragile side. This accidentally was one of the very first sets I purchased when I was starting into modelling, and I will admit it gave me fits at times.
If you are experienced and need a truck like this, don't hesitate. It's a little spendy, but I feel the inclusion of the extra equipment makes up for its complexity and fragility. If you are new to the hobby, expect to take a lot of extra time with this model to get it right. It isn't the nightmare that the Revell 1:72 HMMWV TOW & Ambulance set was.

disappointedFeb 06, 2012
By Hilary G.
I ordered this for my son expecting an army vehicle. No where in the product description did it say that this is a model vehicle, and a poorly constructed one at that. Once we got over our disappointment that the product wasn't what we thought it to be, we set about putting it together. The pieces are by far too small, it is very hard for adult hands to handle and.assemble. all the pieces are the same color, so the finished product lacks.dimension or realism. No stickers for decoration either. After about 4 hours and only having a few pieces of the hood assembled, we made the decision to throw away and go buy another, more kid friendly model. I would not recommend anyone to purchase this product unless it is your exact desire.
